Guilford Fire Hazmat Team Responds To Old Saybrook Walmart
Reported shortly after 11 a.m., the store was evacuated after an odor was discovered, one which reportedly caused eye irritation in some.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT —A reported unknown odor at Walmart late Wednesday morning brought out the Guilford Fire Department's Hazmat Team to the incident.
First reported at shortly after 11 a.m., the store was evacuated and a number of people were seen by EMTs, though according to emergency radio and reports, none were transported to the hospital.
Fox 61 reported that "five employees were complaining about watery, itchy eyes while in different parts of the store."

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded and WTNH reportedthat its spokesperson said the odor came from “acid gas vapors emanating from overheated batteries in a floor scrubber," which was taken out of the building.
Guilford Fire Department Hazmat Team responded this morning to Walmart in Old Saybrook for a hazmat incident.
