Guilford Has Nearly 800 Cases: First Selectman

"Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases continue to increase," Matt Hoey said adding it's largely due to people ignoring rules on social gatherings.

GUILFORD, CT — With 782 COVID-19 cases, 98 in the schools, the district said, Guilford First Selectman Matt Hoey pointed to social gatherings as one of the reasons for the dramatic case spike.

In a message to the community Friday, Hoey lamented that in the last week, 80 new cases were reported.

"Unfortunately, Covid-19 cases in Guilford continue to increase. We are now at 53.4 cases per 100,000 people," he said. "This rise is attributable in large part to social gatherings."

"I can’t stress enough that we need to be patient about when one can expect to receive a vaccination as the state is currently receiving 46,000 doses per week. Until such time as there is increased national availability of doses, basic math suggests that it will take some time to fully vaccinate the state," he said.
