Guilford, Madison Students Keep Student's Memory Alive

The third annual Daniel Hand vs. Guilford alumni memorial skate is scheduled to take place at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 27 at East Haven’s DiLungo ice rink.

This skate takes on specifical significance on the Shoreline.

Daniel Hand High School will face off will play against Guilford High School in a game to keep alive the memory of Nick Kruczek who died of an overdose.

All proceeds will go to senior scholarship funds at each respective high school as well as a drug awareness program. Raffles and a silent auction will be taking place.

Dana Hilmer, Prevention Coordinator for Guilford Developmental Assets for Youth, said Nick Kruczek passed away after an overdose and his parents Sue and Kyle, who live in Guilford, are doing their share to keep his memory alive and educate people on the difficulties of addiction.

Sue Kruczek, mother of Nick Kruczek, said she is very active in educating people about addiction as well as breaking the stigma of having a struggle with addiction.

The Guilford Developmental Assets for Youth is a coalition of community members that are working together to help build a healthy environment for Guilford youth, according to Hilmer.
