Guilford Man Charged In Fatal DUI Crash In Wallingford: Police

A woman was killed and three others were injured in the crash, according to police.

WALLINGFORD, CT — A Guilford man faces a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal DUI crash last summer in Wallingford that killed one person and injured three others, according to police.

Nicholas Fairchild, 25, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the July 28, 2020 crash at the intersection of Route 68 and North Main Street Extension in Wallingford.

A Jeep Wrangler heading east on Route 68 collided with a Honda CRV that was traveling north on North Main Street Extension, police said at the time. The driver of the Honda CRV, identified as Karen Gabriel, 58, of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fairchild, of Durham Road, was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, improper license plate, failure to insure motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, operating with a suspended license, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, traveling unreasonably fast, and red light violation.

He was being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond with a court date of Feb. 16.
