Guilford Man Charged With Manslaughter Rearrested: Police

Facing a manslaughter charge for fatal DUI crash, Nicholas Fairchild, 25, was jailed for violating release conditions, police logs show.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford man facing a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal DUI crash last summer in Wallingford that killed one person and injured three others, and who was released on bail, was arrested by Guilford police Monday, charged with violating his release conditions.

Nicholas Fairchild, 25, is now in jail in New Haven, court records show. Corrections and judicial records show Fairchild is being held on $200,000 bail but is due in court Thursday.

Fairchild was arrested last month in connection with the July 28, 2020 crash at the intersection of Route 68 and North Main Street Extension in Wallingford, Patch reported.

Police said that a Jeep Wrangler heading east on Route 68 collided with a Honda CRV that was traveling north on North Main Street Extension. The driver of the Honda CRV, identified as Karen Gabriel, 58, of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fairchild, of Durham Road, was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, improper license plate, failure to insure motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to wear a seat belt, operating with a suspended license, criminal impersonation, interfering with an officer, traveling unreasonably fast, and red light violation.
