Guilford Police's Message To The Public On Coronavirus

Guilford police are asking the public to follow safety guidelines in order to slow the spread of the new coronavirus.

GUILFORD, CT — Guilford police said as of Monday, there have been 59 people in the town confirmed to have been infected with the new coronavirus. The department is asking residents to follow the restrictions imposed to slow the spread of the virus.

The restrictions say nonessential businesses can't do operate in-person facilities through May 20, recreational gatherings over five people are prohibited, religious services over 50 people are prohibited, restaurants are take-out and delivery only, salons are closed and more. Nobody is happy about the restrictions, the Guilford Police Department said, "nor should we expect them to be." Regardless, the restrictions are required. "We need to understand that these decisions are made with the best interests of the entire population in mind," the police department said in a Facebook post.

"While opinions may differ on the extent to which our Town, State, and Country respond, the fact remains that we all have a responsibility to follow the recommendations and rules promulgated by our public officials," police said. "We have been and will continue to respond to concerns as fair and objectively as possible, but we also need the public’s help in managing this challenge."

Police say residents should practice social distancing, wear a mask when social distancing is impossible, stay home when possible and to certainly stay home when sick.
