Guilford Retiree is On a Roll--Wins $10,000 Prize

Stephen Schusky is a CT Lottery "Jewel 7's" instant game second prize winner

Stephen Schusky of Guilford may be retired, but he still keeps himself pretty busy with daily visits to the gym, and weekly outings to some of the few remaining roller skating rinks around the state. After yesterday’s workout, Schusky stopped to get something to drink and bought a CT Lottery “Jewel 7’s” instant game ticket. Later on, Schusky scratched the ticket and revealed a winning number match—along with one of the game’s $10,000 second prizes.

“I like this game. I usually win something whenever I play. This time, I didn’t believe what I was seeing. When I saw the number match, I was expecting a $20 or a $50 win, not $10,000!” This is the largest prize I’ve ever won, and the first time I’ve been to CT Lottery headquarters.”

Schusky accepted his prize check for $10,000 (before taxes) from Lottery officials with no immediate plans for his unexpected windfall. When asked if he might buy some new roller skates, Schusky replied, “Probably not. Except for changing out the wheels a couple times, I’ve had the same pair of skates since 1979. They’re in my trunk. Do you want to see them?”
