Guilford Schools Reopening Plan: What You Need To Know Now

GUILFORD, CT — Not unlike many school districts in the state, Guilford Public Schools reopening plan is guided by coronavirus spread come late August.

That said, there's a plan that covers the three likely scenarios: a full reopening to all students; a partial reopening, in which only 50 percent of students will attend on any given day; and a full at-home, fully distance learning reopening.

And as new health data is collected, new guidance provided, and the community provides input, Schools Superintendent Dr. Paul Freeman says the plan for a return to school come September 10 is a "living and evolving document."

"While we are currently expecting a full reopening, the point upon the continuum at which we will reopen our schools on September 10 will be confirmed as we move closer to the first day of school and will be based on a current assessment of the public health data available at that time. It is likely that we will find ourselves needing to move across this continuum as this year unfolds. More detailed school plans will now be developed at each school that will flexibly respond to changes in state expectations. This plan will continue to be a living and evolving document."

In the meantime, Tuesday at 7 p.m., a public meeting will give families the opportunity to ask questions and share their comments. The meeting will be presented as a Zoom Webinar that you can join here and it will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
