GUILFORD, CT — With hundreds in the dark overnight after the damaging Thursday storm downed trees, taking power lines with them, and making many streets and roads impassable, by Friday mid-afternoon, nearly 8 percent, or 850 Guilford Eversource customers remain without power.

Eversource estimated that its "hundreds of line and tree crews will substantially complete restoration for all towns in Connecticut by midnight tonight," meaning Friday, "with the exception of Branford where the extensive damage will take additional time to fully restore and is expected to be substantially complete by Saturday night."

Guilford fire and police said that Eversource 'Make-Safe' crews, repair crews, members of the Guilford Fire Department and town department of public works have been working to "open up roads."

Eversource described Guilford as "especially hard hit," in a statement.

In a post to Facebook early Friday afternoon, police said crews reported that Dromara Road and Uncas Circle were closed as trees, wires and poles were blocking the roads. Police said all other areas are open to at least one lane traffic and that crews "are focusing on opening roads to ensure emergency crews have access to those areas and then will move towards restoration."
