Obituary: Jean Denison, 85, of Guilford

Jean worked as a security guard for the Yale University Art Gallery for 37 years; the first woman guard, she served as union steward.​

Jean Denison, 85, a longtime resident of Guilford, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on Friday, March 26. Jean was born in New Haven, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francisco Ferreira. While attending Wilbur Cross High School, Jean met the love of her life and husband of over 60 years, the late George A. Denison. She was a devoted and loving mother to her children, Dr. Timothy Denison (Christina) of Old Lyme and the late William Denison (Micheline) of Norwich. In addition to her son, she is survived by her sisters, Marie Keane of Florida and Ann Apuzzo of East Providence, Rhode Island; 5 adoring grandchildren: Emily Ellis (Sean), Molly Denison (Gene Barousse), Michael Denison, Olivia Denison and Madeline Denison; 2 great-grandchildren: Oliver Ellis and Bailey Barousse, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Before retirement, Jean had worked as a security guard for the Yale University Art Gallery for 37 years. She was the first female guard to work for the Gallery and served as union steward.

Above all, she loved her family and we loved her. She enjoyed being a homemaker, going to the beach, reading, watching movies and making new friends.

A celebration of Jean’s life is planned for this summer. In remembrance of Jean’s life, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. www.stjude.org
