Obituary: Jerome F. “Pops” Barretta, 90, of Guilford

He had his own swing band in the 1950s and owned a real estate company. He enjoyed time with family, especially Sunday dinners and BBQs.

Thursday, March 18, 2021 Jerome F. “Pops” Barretta longtime resident of Guilford passed away at St. Raphael Campus at Yale. Husband of the late Marilyn (Carrubba) Barretta. Mr. Barretta was born in New Haven on April 10, 1930, son of the late Frank and Mary (Marro) Barretta. Loving father of James Barretta of Guilford, Gerilyn Barretta of Meriden; Cynthia (Jim) Seward of Branford; Susan Barretta of Westbrook and the late Jerome Barreta, Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren, Anthony, Willie, Kimberly, Brittany and Heather and nine great grandchildren Brother of Junior Barretta. Predeceased by a brother Duke Barretta.

Mr. Barretta is a graduate of Hillhouse High School. During High School he played the trumpet and continued his enjoyment of music, playing in his own swing band throughout the 1950’s. He worked as a broker and realtor for his own real estate company, called Jerome Realty. Jerome also worked at the Echlin Manufacturing Co for many years in security. He enjoyed spending time with his family at his family's lake house having Sunday dinners and barbecues, and also with his beloved dogs Samson and Delilah.
