Police Looking For Deer Hunter Whose Bullet Shot Into House
Guilford and state environmental police searching for the hunter whose bullet ripped through fences, a window and into a person's mudroom.

GUILFORD, CT — Investigators looking for a hunter who on Monday, while shooting at a deer, and trailing it through the yards of private homes, had his fired bullet smash through a window and land inside a resident’s home.
No one was injured.
Guilford Police Department Chief Warren “Butch” Hyatt confirmed for Patch that his officers are working with state environmental police in trying to identify and locate the hunter.

The resident posted on a Guilford community Facebook page describing the Monday afternoon incident on Sam Hill Road.
“A little before noon on Monday, a hunter fired at a deer, either from within the 500ft exclusion zone behind our neighbor's house or perhaps from their back yard. The bullet went through a couple of fences, bounced off the brick wall of my house, and came through a window, finally coming to rest in our mudroom. The hunter then crossed at least 4 private properties in pursuit of the deer before giving up. Guilford PD and the state Encon police are conducting a very thorough, professional investigation. (I have nothing but praise for both groups. They are taking this very seriously.) I don't want to start any fights about hunting or gun rights. But I do want to request that anyone who has any information which might help the police to contact Officer Williams at the GPD. And I want to remind everyone who goes in or near the woods to check the DEEP web site for hunting season info. Be safe - wear orange, both you and your pets, when you are near woods."
