Popular Halloween Costume Shop Closing In Guilford

GUILFORD, CT — A popular Halloween costume shop in Guilford is closing after more than 30 years in business, the owners announced Sunday.

Characters & Costumes at 1310 Boston Post Rd. in Guilford is selling all of its costume inventory at discount prices for its final Halloween.

“With a heavy heart we are announcing that this will be the last Halloween for Characters & Costumes costume shop in Guilford,” the owners wrote in a post on Facebook. “While we will still have the READ Amusements and Segway Tour businesses going forward, we are selling off all of our costume inventory (including rentals) at deeply discounted prices.”

Characters & Costumes is owned by Eileen and Rich Petrillo.

“It’s been 32 great years,” Eileen Petrillo said in a video posted on Facebook. “We’re very sad to be closing, but COVID finally got us, and also the Internet. But we would like to have you come down and say hello and say goodbye to the last Halloween seen here at Characters & Costumes Strawberry Hill Plaza in Guilford.”
