GUILFORD, CT — Over the last two weeks, Guilford has seen a dramatic uptick in coronavirus cases, First Selectman Matt Hoey said.

Since just before Thanksgiving, there have been a reported 101 new cases, Hoey said in a message to the community.

Doing the math, Hoey noted that after the new cases, the state Department of Public Health has determined that Guilford has 316 confirmed and 29 probable cases. Thirteen have died. He said that the town's two week-rolling daily new case rate per 100,000 people has risen to nearly 20 percent.

"Over the past seven weeks, we have had 198 new case whereas, in the prior seven months we had a total of 147 cases," Hoey said. "That is a 135% increase. At the risk of suggesting we are okay with these numbers, there are only 14 municipalities in CT with a lower case rate but this is not the time to back off of the practices that kept our case rate so low for so long.
