Special Weather Statement Issued For Parts Of New Haven, Middlesex Counties

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for the area this afternoon. BREAKING

From the National Weather Service:

...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN MIDDLESEX AND EAST CENTRAL NEW HAVEN COUNTIES...

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the areas including Branford, Guilford, Madison, North Branford, Clinton, Westbrook, and the Haddams.

At 149 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Guilford, moving east at 20 mph.

Wind gusts up to 50 mph and dime size hail are possible with this storm.

Clinton around 205 PM EDT.
Westbrook around 225 PM EDT.
Old Saybrook around 230 PM EDT.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.

At 207 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area.
