The Case of the (Still) Missing Peacock in Guilford

It started off as a cool photo from a Patch reader, but it turns out this peacock, Snowball, is someone's pet peacock and he has been missing for almost a year- Have you seen him???

On April 30, Guilford Patch received this photo of a beautiful White Peacock on a stone wall on Moose Hill Road in town. We shared it with our readers on our Facebook page since it was such a rare sighting in the town.

It turns out, this peacock is actually someone's pet and he has been missing for almost a year! Jessica Swartz posted this on our Facebook Page:

Hey! This is my peacock! If anyone sees him again could you please call or text me? Thanks Jessica Swartz (203) 738-9118

The peacock's name is Snowball, and he's been missing since last year and this is the first sighting in months. Here's what she had to say:

Actually my peacock has been missing since July 1 2012! He was a Christmas present to my daughter and flew off during a thunder storm! We were tracking him for awhile, he is VERY hard to catch, but this is the first sighting in months, when my daughter saw this picture she cries with happiness! I will definitely contact animal control and thank you so much for letting us know Snowball is OK and we still have hope!

Thanks! Can you believe I've been chasing a white peacock around Guilford for a year? This is one for the books for sure!

So far, we have two confirmed sightings: one from April 30 when we originally received the picture and Sunday, May 12, when another reader posted this on Facebook:

just saw this peacock walking down I-95! (Just assuming its the same one. I wouldn't think there are many white peacocks in these parts ;D). Does it belong to someone? Jessica, he was walking down 95 last night between exits 57 and 56 (southbound) on the grassy part. It was 8 pm or so. You should call animal control in Guilford & Branford to put them on alert. I almost called them myself bc I figured it belonged to someone. It's beautiful!

Snowball is still missing so if you see him, be sure to call Animal Control and his owner Jessica ((203) 738-9118)).
