Top Docs: Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center Guilford Physicians

GUILFORD, CT — Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center at Guilford physicians Susan Higgins, MD, and Nina Horowitz, MD, FACS, are highlighted in the 2021 list of top doctors in Connecticut Magazine.

Published in the magazine’s June issue, the 'Best Doctors' list includes physicians nominated by their peers. Dr. Higgins is a medical oncologist and Dr. Horowitz is a surgeon specializing in breast cancer.

Higgins received her medical degree and completed an internship at the University of Rochester. She completed a residency at Yale. Horowitz received her medical degree from Columbia University and completed her internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. She has been on faculty at Yale since 2010.

The Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Guilford has more than 50 staff members. The facility treats more than 900 patients per month, and schedules 700 infusion and more than 500 radiation patient visits per month.

A Smilow Surgical Specialty Center, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, and clinical trials are all offered on site. The facility also provides access to supportive care clinicians, including an oncology nurse coordinator, social workers, a dietitian, clinical research staff, palliative care, and survivorship planning and provides access to integrative medicine services, including massage, reiki, acupuncture, music therapy, and psychology.
