74-Year-Old Shooting Suspect Also Fired At CT Capitol: State PD

The suspect is accused of going on a wild shooting spree in Southington and at the state Capitol Building over the weekend.

HARTFORD, CT — The 74-year-old Plantsville man, who is in custody in connection with a wild shooting spree in Southington, also is accused of shooting at that the Connecticut Capitol Building, according to state police.

Douglas Floyd Gollnick was arrested Monday in connection with the weekend shooting spree in Southington, and state police said Wednesday that Gollnick also is responsible for the Capitol shooting. No injuries were reported in any of the shootings.

Bullet holes from the Capitol shooting were discovered Monday.

"It was determined that the incident took place on May 30, 2021, and is directly related to the shootings in the town of Southington on May 30, 2021," said state police in a release, adding that the Capitol shooting appears to be isolated.

Gollnick is accused of using of .22 caliber long rifle to shoot at buildings throughout Southington on Meriden Waterbury Turnpike (including the Mormon Church), North Star Drive, and Meriden Avenue.

He also is believed to have shot at buildings on School Street and Flanders Road.

Before he was taken into custody, Gollnick led police on a vehicle chase before crashing his truck in Middletown on Monday.

According to Southington police, Gollnick had no criminal history, and his only contact with authorities prior to Monday was in the past when officers went to check on his welfare.
