AARP & University of Saint Joseph Present Virtual Summit on Aging

AARP and University of Saint Joseph will hold a virtual summit on Tuesday March 30 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM to discuss effective policies and programs that ensure how older adults around the globe can lead healthier, productive lives and how societies become stronger as a resulting benefit.

The world continues to experience a sustained change in the age structure of the population, driven by increasing life expectancy. Over the next three decades, the global number of older persons is projected to more than double, reaching over 1.5 billion in 2050.

Locally, Connecticut’s population continues to age faster than the national average. Between 2010 and 2040, Connecticut’s population of people age 65 and older is projected to grow by 57%, while its population of people age 20 to 64 is projected to grow less than 2%.

These growing numbers of older adults want to stay in their communities and maintain choice, independence and dignity. With people living longer and extending their work life well past the traditional retirement age, they are contributing to economic growth as well as combatting myths about how aging affects the economy. Disparities, however, still remain.

The virtual summit on aging will include advocates, students, academics, professionals and members of the community. The public is invited to join our renowned speakers as they discuss how countries are responding to changing health and workforce needs, opportunities available through generational diversity lens, and share their personal journeys.
