CT Landmarks Hosts Japan Day at the Butler-McCook House & Garden

Families Learn More About Other Cultures on August 11th

Join the Butler-McCook House & Garden for a summer celebration of Japanese culture in collaboration with the Japan Society of Greater Hartford. On Saturday, August 11th from noon to 4 pm, admire and even dress in authentic Japanese yukata fashions, then take part in a traditional summer Bondance around the gardens. Learn the arts of origami and calligraphy and experience Japanese music and dance demonstrations. Sample Japanese tea and simple foods, and view the Japanese artifacts in the Butler-McCook collection.

Free; donations welcome to support the Butler-McCook House & Garden. Regular admission applies for house tour. The event will take place RAIN OR SHINE, though activities may vary depending on the weather.

About the Japan Society of Greater Hartford

The Japan Society of Connecticut (JSC) was formed in 1986 by the Japanese, the Japanese–American, and the community members interested in Japan, who lived in the Greater Hartford area. The goals of JSC were to promote mutual friendship among the members, to exchange useful information, to provide support to the members in needs, and to promote mutual understanding between the US and Japan. Since its formation, JSC organized various cultural activities such as New Year’s Party, picnics, Japanese movie festival, Japanese nights, running Japanese school for the children of the members, golf competition. JSC also maintained and published a newsletter every three months for networking the members.
