Famous Downtown Hartford Eatery to Close
After more than four decades in business, the owners plan to retire at the end of February.

HARTFORD, CT — More than 40 years after opening in the heart of downtown Hartford, a renowned hot dog eatery adorned with Miami Dolphins memorabilia will soon be shutting its doors. Woody's, billed as "home of the Deputy Dog," will close at the end of February, according to a post on its Facebook page.
Owners Gary and Cindy Wood, who opened the restaurant at 915 Main Street in 1977, are retiring and selling their Dolphins merchandise.
According to the menu, the Deputy Dog is smothered in barbecued pulled pork and cheddar cheese, and remains most popular among specialty toppings that also include peppers, onions, coleslaw, chili, baked beans and bacon. Burgers, sandwiches and fries are also popular items.

A recent Yelp review written by a customer from Ohio said, "This place may look familiar, because it was on Man vs. Food once upon a time. Honestly, I think that's how I discovered it. The hot dogs here are longer than your average dog and grilled nice and crispy to order. They're famous for the Deputy Dog that has a pile of BBQ pulled pork on top of it, but I usually stick to the spicier options. I'll say their Chicago Dog is pretty solid."
