Why he is special: Ask anyone that knew my father and they will say he always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to make you laugh. He taught me and my siblings to embrace our Peruvian roots and to have an even greater love for our home, America. Honesty and integrity, he always said, are virtues that enable a distinct respect. I can say with profound pride that his humble teachings left an immeasurable legacy, one that has made me a better human, a better woman – one that will continue his legacy of staying true to one’s self, of giving back, and of never settling and of making sure our leaders hear our voices.
