Hartford Man Sentenced In Gun Case: Feds

Rakeem Grant has been sentenced to more than 2 years in prison on a federal gun charge.

HARTFORD, CT — A Hartford man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for possessing a loaded gun while on supervised release, according to a statement from prosecutors. Rakeem Grant, 32, will also serve three years of supervised release.

According to prosecutors, Grant was convicted in state court of possession of a pistol without a permit in 2017. Hartford police arrested Grant again in 2018 after he was found in possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun outside of nightclub that had been a hotspot for shootings and violence on Main Street in Hartford.

He was released from prison in 2019. Then Aug. 28, 2020, Hartford police arrested Grant after they found him in possession of a loaded Taurus G2S .40 caliber handgun. He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon in November.
