HARTFORD, CT — Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin has been hospitalized with a bout of colitis. Bronin announced the news on Thursday afternoon, saying he thought residents had a right to know.

Bronin said he expects to be home within the next few days.

“It’s always strange talking about personal health, but I felt that this was important to share,” Bronin wrote in a post on Twitter. “For more than a decade, I’ve had colitis — usually just a minor inconvenience, controlled with medication & just means I need to avoid certain foods...

“But once in a while it does flare up, and this past weekend it flared up. Checked into the hospital on my Dr’s recommendation to get checked out. They’ve kept me longer than expected, doing tests & getting things back on track. So far going well.

“I’m expecting to be home in the next few days (can’t wait, since covid = family can’t visit) & look forward to being back in the office. Meantime, I’ve been in touch with my team everyday.
