Hartford Shooting Victim Was Grandson Of Anti-Violence Advocate

The victim of a fatal shooting Monday was the grandson of a longtime anti-violence advocate.

HARTFORD, CT — The victim of a shooting in southwest Hartford was the 19-year-old grandson of street violence prevention worker Carl Hardrick, according to The Hartford Courant. Makhi Buckly, of Westland Street, was attending American International College in Springfield and was a Division II football player.

Hardrick spent 60 years as a youth development leader and anti-violence activist. He helped raise Buckly at his home on Canterbury Street, according to The Hartford Courant.

Buckly was shot in the torso at 3:45 p.m. Monday outside 152 Amherst St. He was taken to Hartford Hospital and pronounced dead.
