High-Profile Connecticut Lawyer Hubert Santos Dies At 76

Longtime Hartford-based lawyer Hubert Santos has died.

HARTFORD, CT — Longtime high-profile Hartford attorney and Enfield native Hubert Santos has died.

His law firm, Santos & LaLima, announced the passing of the 76-year-old Santos Tuesday and called it, "an enormous loss."

He had practiced law at the appellate and trial levels for more than three decades and for five decades in all.

The statement from the firm said, "Hubert Santos was a legend in the legal profession, and this is an enormous loss. In his 50 years as an attorney, he left a great legacy through his many legal victories, his dedication to defending his client's rights, and in the countless legal professionals who he met and generously helped along the way."

Santos was involved in a number of high profile cases, including that of Richard Dabate, the Ellington man accused of killing his wife in 2015; the public corruption case against former Hartford mayor Eddie Perez; the Michael Skakel/Greenwich murder trial; the Michael Ross capital punishment case and the Karin Aparo murder conspiracy case.

Santos was a 1969 graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law. There, he was an editor of the Connecticut Law Review. He was a resident of West Hartford.

Santos was a 1962 graduate of Enfield High School, where he was voted, among other distinctions, as "best boy" and "most athletic."
