The 1980s and 1990s have brought us some of the most classic songs in rock and Journey is at the top of the list with multiple hit singles. The band achieved its most success with “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Open Arms,” both songs off their 1981 album, “Escape.” Although singer Steve Perry is no longer with the band, Arnel Pineda has triumphed in Perry’s place since his debut performance in early 2008.

Original founding members Neal Schon and Ross Valory continue to play on lead guitar and bass, along with drummer Steve Smith and keyboardist Jonathan Cain.

Journey’s last studio album was released in 2011 but the band hasn’t put their love of performing behind them. Playing around the world, Journey earned the Billboard Touring Award in 2011 for their contribution to live entertainment.

Now they head out in 2020 with The Pretenders on their North American stadium and amphitheater tour. Playing over 60 shows, these renowned bands kick off on May 12 in Ridgefield and finish up with a final show on Sept. 12 at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in New York.

The Pretenders are just as well-received wherever they play, with founder Chrissie Hynde still performing her strong vocals and backed by a band of talented musicians playing a mix of rock, pop, new wave, and punk.

Cain from Journey says he’s excited to be on tour with Hynde — “I mean, she is ageless, kind of like [Heart‘s] Ann Wilson. You hear her and think, yeah, still sounds like the record.”

The concert is anticipated to be a trip down memory lane, with Journey playing fan favorites and classics such as “Any Way You Want It” and “Faithfully.” The Pretenders will add their own hits to the night with “I’ll Stand By You” and “2000 Miles.”
