Rita Hope-Googe of East Hartford, CT, went into eternal rest peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 surrounded by her family at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Rita was born on July 10, 1939 in New York City. She was raised in Bracey, Virginia and in 1944 she moved to Bellevue Square in Hartford, Connecticut.

Rita, who was also known as “Mama Googe” or “Aunt Rita”, expressed an unconditional love for family and friends that was beyond measure. She was a great homemaker, loved to cook and entertain people and opened her home to everyone.

Rita was a long time proud member of Hopewell Baptist Church and was an active member in their Hospitality Auxiliary, where she gained devoted friendships. Rita truly loved the Lord and would relentlessly read and study the Bible. When she was not working at the church, she kept herself busy during her spare time with crossword puzzles, computer games and electronic devices. She loved to shop and loved to reminisce about the good ole times she shared with her family and friends. She also enjoyed talking about her childhood days while living in Bellevue Square. Rita retired in 1994 from Hi G Nytronics in South Windsor and devoted her time to family.

Rita leaves six children: two daughters, Karen Walker-Rhoden (Donavan), Bloomfield, CT and Gwendolyn Delafose Rodgers, West Palm Beach, FL; four sons, Henry L. Walker, Wethersfield, CT; Daryl Walker (Lisa), Plainville, CT; Lawrence Delafose, Jr. (Audrey), Atlanta, GA and Kevin Delafose (Porscha) Charlotte, NC.
Grandchildren: Alicia N. Rodgers, Sharaunda R. Pitt, Kara S. Pitt, Darien M. Rhoden, Ashley D. Walker, Daryl Walker, Jr., Rita M. Walker, Daryn E. Walker, Victoria E. Delafose, Brittany M. Delafose, Sydnaye C. Delafose, Jabriel I. Delafose, Kevin Delafose, Jr., Kayla S. Delafose, Chance C. Delafose, Kobe A. Delafose and Kyle M. Delafose. Great

Grandchildren: Ahmajad Sumner, Justice Sumner and Zaya M. Flowers. Nieces: Gaynessia Gant and Amy Hope. Godson: Quincy McCrorey (LaDawn), Aunt: Virginia Hester (104 Year Old Aunt), Cousins: Ira, Marian, Robert and Kenneth Hester and Nelson George, Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Herman, Edward, Dorothy and Lilly Googe, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rita is predeceased by her husband, Tommy F. Googe; parents, George M. Hope and Dorothy Sturdivant-Hope; sister, Doris E. Hope-Delafose and brother, Milton S. Hope.
