Obituary: Alycia Brierley Evica, 82, of Hartford

Alycia, passionate and beloved English and drama teacher and director, retired from many years' service from Hall High in West Hartford.

Alycia Brierley Evica, 82, of Hartford, Connecticut passed peacefully from this life following a swift struggle with cancer, on Saturday November 3rd. Her final days were full of family, music, prayer, and comfort.

Alycia, born Marie Alycia Brierley, to Dot and Jim Brierley of Waxahachie, Texas, graduated from San Francisco State with her B.A. in English, and her early professional days were on stage and screen.

After graduation from Stanford University master’s program, she married George Michael Evica of Cleveland, Ohio in San Francisco on September 15, 1965.

Together they lived in Hartford’s West End, with gardens Alycia lovingly grew and curated. George Michael predeceased Alycia in 2007 and is interred in Saint John’s Cloister Garden awaiting their reunion.

Alycia, passionate and beloved English and drama teacher and director, retired from many years’ service from Hall High School, in West Hartford, to enjoy travel and community with her husband and family, and a rich social and creative life with her many friends.

Alycia was a devoted member of Saint John’s Episcopal Church of West Hartford, cherishing most of all the gardens, altar guild, and music ministries.

Alycia is survived by her only child, Mariana Evica, and Mariana’s partner, Dan Traut, as well as by her grandchildren whom she loved so dearly, Lonny M. Evica of Pleasant Hill, California, and Emma S. Evica, of New Britain, and her beloved cousin, Kim Koenigs, and her husband, Chris Koenigs of Ramona, California to be remembered with gratitude.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John’s Pew Cushion Embroidery ministry.
