Pomfret Wins Third Straight League Football Title

Pomfret School, a prep school in Pomfret, CT defeats Hebron Academy to win third straight New England Championship.

The Pomfret football team captured their third straight league championship with a 34-6 win over Hebron. The Griffins’ defense - Mambi Tsemo, Conner Soberay, Amon Williams, Matt Rhem, Bryce Howard, Lance Martineau, Eli Sherman, and Owen Pisa - set the tone early by stopping Hebron on a first and goal situation from the 1-yard line. Andrew Dechellis, Owen Bewley, Matt Botta, Andrew Edwardson and Sherman anchored the offensive line. Highlights for the Griffins, who led 28-0 at halftime, included long TD receptions by Tsemo, Pisa, and Howard; and a 50-yard TD run by Williams. Quarterback Jaxon Witherspoon threw for 149 yards with three TDs for Pomfret (6-1).

Pomfret graduates only three players off this year's roster and looks to work hard in the off-season to compete for its fourth consecutive title.
