Suspect Arrested In Fatal Drive-By Shooting In Hartford: Report

Hartford resident Omar Reyes was arrested Tuesday in Puerto Rico in connection with the shooting death this month of Sylvia Cordova.

HARTFORD, CT — A 21-year-old Hartford man has been arrested in connection with the drive-by shooting death of Sylvia Cordova earlier this month, reported Fox61.

Omar Reyes was arrested Tuesday in Puerto Rico and was charged with the following:

  • Murder
  • Conspiracy to commit murder
  • Possession of an assault weapon
  • Possession of a large-capacity magazine

Reyes was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Puerto Rico police, and is being held in Puerto Rico in lieu of bail of $1 million as he awaits extradition back to Connecticut.

Cordova, a 56-year-old grandmother, was at home cooking dinner on June 9 when she was struck and killed by bullets fired at her first-floor apartment on Sisson Avenue.

NBC Connecticut reported that Hartford police are searching for a second suspect in connection with the shooting, Hartford resident Edwin Roman, 24. A warrant has been issued for Roman for the same charges.
