Winterfest to Carry On at Hartford's Bushnell Park
A shortage of funding had threatened the existence of the popular wintertime festival.
HARTFORD, CT — Thanks to the generosity of corporate donors and community members, the annual Winterfest in Bushnell Park will again take place this season, Fox61 reported.
A rink will open for free ice skating in the park Nov. 25, and a kickoff celebration to the festival is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. Closing date is slated for Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017.
The festival, which has drawn tens of thousands of visitors each season since its creation seven years ago, very nearly became a thing of the past when funding by the city of Hartford was slashed, but a massive fundraising effort generated the needed monies to maintain operation for another year.
