Chef At Auriemma's Restaurant Charged After In-House Theft

A chef at Geno Auriemma's restaurant in Storrs has been charged with burglary after an in-house theft.

STORRS, CT — A chef at Geno Auriemma's restaurant in Dowtown Storrs has been charged with burglary for taking cash from the establishment's safe, state police said.

Gerald Meyer, 29, of North Windham, was arrested on a warrant on April 12 and state police released rthe details of the case this week.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny, according to a warrant.

He posted a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, according to a warrant.

He is accused of going into the safe on a March night when he was the only staff member with the access code, according to a warrant. He was also seen near the safe on surveillance cameras wearing the same clothes as his next shift, according to a warrant.

The bank bag in question had $192 inside it, according to a warrant. Meyer said he was drinking bourbon and thought of returning to the restaurant and "breaking into" the restaurant and "stealing money," according to a warrant.
