Driver Charged In Mansfield Head-On Crash

A driver has been charged in relation to in a Mansfield head-on crash.

MANSFIELD, CT — A driver involved in a head-on crash in Mansfield in December is facing three criminal charges as part of the investigation, state police said.

Xiangyu He, 21, whose listed address is an apartment on Burt Latham Road in Willington, was charged on Thursday with second degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and third-degree assault for his role in the Dec. 10 crash, according to a warrant.

The crash took place at 3:48 p.m. on Route 195, according to a report. A black Ford Focus heading south had been hit head-on by a gold BMW after the Beemer crossed over the double yellow line, according to a report.

The 61-year-old driver of the Ford was taken to Hartford Hospital via Life Star helicopter with a broken pelvis, injuries to both knees, a brain bleed, and impaired vision, according to a warrant. He underwent six surgical procedures, a warrant indicates.

Witnesses told state police it appeared the BMW was trying to pass another vehicle and veered in front of the Ford, according to a warrant. The estimated speed of the crash was 50 mph, according to a warrant.
