Fatal Eastern Connecticut Fire Being Investigated

A fatal fire in Windham is under investigation, state police said.

WINDHAM, CT — A 62-year-old woman died after a fire early Monday morning, state police said.

The fire broke out at 98 Bass Road in Windham at 4:49 a.m., according to a report. After extinguishing the fire, rescuers searched for victims and located a woman in the structure, later identified as Cynthia LaFontaine, who lived at the residence, accordng to a report.

She was taken to Windham Hospital and later pronounced dead, according to a report. She was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, according to a report.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, state police said Monday night.
