Firefighters, Breakfast Cereal Part Of Duckling Rescue At UConn
Bystanders, firefighters and breakfast cereal led to the rescue of a some wayward ducklings at UConn.
STORRS, CT — Some alert bystanders, a few daring firefighters and a little bit of breakfast cereal led to the rescue of a some wayward ducklings on UConn's north campus Sunday.
On Sunday evening, University of Connecticut firefighters received a call from several people on North Eagleville Road, near the Chemistry Building, about distressed ducks, according to a report.
When firefighters arrived, they noticed a distraught mother duck and two ducklings frantically calling for eight other young ducklings who "went for a plunge" in a nearby catch basin according to a report.

UConn firefighters went down the catch basin on a ladder and quickly pulled six of them to safety.
With the help of a few Rice Krispies, the other two who were "stubbornly" swimming in a southerly direction in the catch basin were lured over to the next catch basin and their eventual rescue, according to a report.

All ducklings were reunited with the mother duck and are now hanging around in UConn's Swan Lake, according to a report.
