UConn Senior-To-Be Killed As SUV, Bus Collide In Mansfield

A 21-year-old senior-to-be at UConn was killed when the SUV he was driving collided with a transit bus in Mansfield, state police said.

MANSFIELD — A 21-year-old from Tolland who was to be a senior at the University Of Connecticut was killed when the SUV he was driving collided with a transit bus in Mansfield Thursday night, state police said.

The crash took place at 8:44 p.m., according to a report.

Thomas Paul Leahy, 21, of Tolland, was on Storrs Road heading south in a 2007 Toyota Rav4, according to a report. The sport utility vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and stuck a Windham Regional Tranit District bus driven by Jerome Carson, 36, of Norwich, according to a report.

Leahy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a report. He was to begin his senior year at UConn in August, school officials said.

Carson was transported by ambulance to Windham Hospital with what state police said were minor injuries.

About 12 yards of a stone wall were damaged in the area of 408 Storrs Road in the crash, state police said.

The crash is under investigation, state police said. Anyone with information about the crash is being asked to call the state police Troop C barracks at 860-896-3200.
