Mansfield Cooling Center Hours

Due to continuing forecasts of high heat and humidity, the Town of Mansfield has opened two cooling centers in town.

The Town of Mansfield has opened cooling centers in air-conditioned public facilities for those experiencing physical discomfort in the excessive heat. 

Residents seeking relief from the heat may stop by the following facilities:
  • Mansfield Community Center: Monday-Friday, 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday, 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sunday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Mansfield Public Library: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Please note the Mansfield Senior Center is closed this week for annual maintenance.

Dangerously hot temperatures are expected for the remainder of the week, with heat indices of 100 degrees or higher, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The NWS has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Mansfield through Thursday evening.

  • stay indoors as much as possible and limit exposure to the sun;
  • stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine if air conditioning is not available;
  • consider spending the warmest part of the day in public buildings such as libraries, schools, movie theaters, shopping malls, and other community facilities;
  • eat well-balanced, light, and regular meals;
  • drink plenty of water;
  • limit intake of alcoholic beverages;
  • dress in loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible;
  • protect your face and head by wearing a wide-brimmed hat; and
  • check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning and who spend much of their time alone.

Avoid:

  • using salt tablets unless directed to do so by a physician;
  • leaving children or pets alone in closed vehicles; and
  • strenuous work during the warmest part of the day.
