Mansfield's Veterans Day Forecast Worsens

Many of us are planning to attend outdoor Veterans Day ceremonies and events on Wednesday, and Mother Nature isn’t fully cooperating.

The latest National Weather forecast reveals that we’re expecting heavy rains overnight lasting into most of the morning on Wednesday before tapering off.

Before the showers end, we could be looking at more than an inch of rainfall. The rain is expected to be at its heaviest after midnight, and fog could be an issue early Wednesday.

For southern Connecticut, expect rain to really intensify after 8 p.m. tonight and winds will be gusty between 15-20 mph.

For Hartford and Tolland counties, the heavy rain will arrive after 10 p.m. and it will be foggy with winds gusting in excess of 20 mph.

The rain is forecast to largely end by 10 a.m. in southern Connecticut, and by 8 a.m. in Hartford and Tolland counties.

Temperatures will be in the low 50s up north and in the mid 50s nearer the coastline on Veterans Day.

More showers are likely on Thursday afternoon as well.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said “heavier rain will develop after midnight tonight. Up to an inch of rain (beneficial rain!) is expected across the state.”

News 12 Weather wrote, “NOVEMBER THUNDER: Was that thunder? Yes it was! Some of these downpours are producing thunder and lightning.”

Long-range winter forecast for Connecticut

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Brad Field says on Facebook that WSI is predicting a milder winter but it could still be stormy.

“While temperatures will likely be milder, it has the potential to be quite stormy with a storm track out of the deep south up the eastern seaboard...probably a lot of borderline rain/snow events...could be big snow (just cold enough NW hills) with less than average snow SE corner of Connecticut with frequent changeovers to rain…,” Field wrote on social media.
