Rep. Smith Sworn In For Second Term

The 48th House District covers Colchester, Lebanon, Mansfield and Windham.

State Representative Brian Smith (D – Colchester, Lebanon, Mansfield, Windham) was sworn in to his second term representing the 48th House District covering Colchester, Lebanon, Mansfield, and Windham for the General Assembly’s 2021 session.

“I look forward to advocating on behalf of my constituents as well as residents across the state,” Rep. Smith said. “Government should work for the people, especially during these unprecedented times, and I am honored to be able to continue serving this district."

Rep. Smith begins his first full term dedicated to improving the quality of life for Connecticut residents and creating a more equitable place to live, learn, and work.

During the 2021 session, Rep. Smith's priorities include rebuilding the state economy from the coronavirus pandemic, reducing the cost of healthcare, expanding PTSD coverage for emergency medical personnel, and securing vital funding to support the 48th House District's schools, and public services and programs.

He will serve as a member of the Higher Education & Employment Advancement Committee, Planning & Development Committee, and Transportation Committee.

Rep. Smith was first elected to the House of Representatives during a January 2020 special election following the passing of State Representative Linda Orange, who served the 48th House District for over 20 years.

Rep. Smith has a long career in public service having served on the Colchester Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Economic Development Commission, and Charter Adoption Commission. He also founded the Actor's Attic Theatre Company, Inc., a nonprofit theater that operated in Hartford from 1983 until 1989.
