Sarsour, Women's March Organizer, Slated to Speak at UConn

An organizer of the January Women's March on Washington is scheduled to speak at the University of Connecticut ​this week.

STORRS, CT — Linda Sarsour, a "racial justice and civil rights activist" who was one of the organizers of the January Women’s March on Washington, is scheduled to speak at the University of Connecticut this week.

Sarsour is slated to talk at the "Women's Herstory Month" opening Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Student Union Theatre.

Sarsour has received numerous awards and honors including “Champion of Change” by the White House, YWCA USA’s Women of Distinction Award for Advocacy and Civic Engagement, and the Hala Maksoud Leadership Award from the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. Sarsour has been named among 500 of the most influential Muslims in the world.

The event is open to the "university community" and will require a valid UConn ID for admission.

The event is being sponsored by the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Women’s, Gender and Sexualities Studies, the Dodd Center, the Humanities Institute and the Human Rights Institute.
