Storrs Obituary: Helen Sadow, 97

Condolences to her family and friends.

Helen (Marco) Sadow, 97, of Storrs, fell asleep with the Lord on May 10, 2018. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation after a brief illness.

Helen was born in Willington on December 2, 1920 to William and Anna (Washenko) Marco. She attended Hartford School of Nursing and received her degree as a Registered Nurse. Immediately following, she joined the United States Navy and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander while being stationed in Bethesda, MD; New London; and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Following her honorable discharge from the Navy, she worked her remaining years in the infirmary at UConn until her retirement. She enjoyed her cat, KC, walking, reading, and gardening.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband, Nicholas, of 51 years and six brothers and sisters; Nick, Eva, Elsie, George, Michael, and Mary. She leaves behind her loving son, Alfred, daughter-in-law, Christine, grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher of Willington, and step-daughter, Barbara Lade of Tucson, AZ. She also leaves behind many extended family members including nieces and nephews.

Helen’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation hours on Sunday, May 13, 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. (Rte. 195), Willimantic. Funeral services will take place on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00am at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 414 Valley St., Willimantic. Burial will be immediately following at the Russian Greek Orthodox Cemetery on Rte. 6, Windham.
