UConn Hillel Receives Grant from Mansfield UJC

Funding to Expand Programming for Jewish Youth

The University of Connecticut Hillel has received a $3,000 grant from the Mansfield United Jewish Communities (UJC) campaign, part of the Jewish Federations of North America Network of Independent Communities, for expansion of its programming to Jewish youth on campus. UCONN Hillel celebrates Jewish learning and living, pursues social justice, and enriches the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. The Mansfield United Jewish Communities creates a Jewish community which is respectful of Jewish differences, outreaches to Jews of all backgrounds, and is knowledgeable of and committed to Jewish values and practice.

Executive Director of UCONN Hillel, Scott Selig, says, “We are grateful to the UJC for their generous support, particularly during this auspicious year as we embark on Hillel’s 85th anniversary and rededicate ourselves to fulfilling our potential by helping others to reach theirs. Together, we will continue our legacy of creating strong individuals and an even stronger community.” A vital part of Hillel’s mission is to help college students strengthen their Jewish identity by providing them with opportunities to explore their Judaism in multiple ways. The funds will help to expand Jewish educational programming by amplifying holiday celebrations.

Sheila Amdur, UJC Campaign Chair says, “We admire the good work that the UCONN Hillel does to promote welcoming and inclusive Jewish life for students. It is our hope to use part of our fundraising to promote outreach to Jewish youth and their families throughout our region. The UJC has always strived to support Jewish communal life.”
