1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured In Meriden Crash

A single-car wreck on Old Colony Road over the weekend killed one local man and seriously injured another.

MERIDEN, CT — A Meriden man was killed and another was seriously injured in a Saturday night crash, according to police. The single-car wreck occurred near 884 Old Colony Rd. around 10:20 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a heavily damaged green Honda Civic resting in the northbound lane of the road. Xavier Alamo, 33, was trapped in vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Bryon Garcia, 24, of Meriden, was ejected from the car and landed in the road. He was taken to Hartford Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Police said in a statement: "Evidence at the scene reveals that Mr. Garcia was traveling south on Old Colony Road at a high rate of speed. He lost control of his vehicle in the area of 884 Old Colony Road and crossed over the double yellow line. His vehicle left the roadway and rotated 180 degrees, striking a telephone pole and breaking it. The telephone pole came through the rear of the vehicle and struck Mr. Alamo, killing him."

The Meriden Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Meriden Police Department at 203-630-6215.
