The Annual Meeting of the Members was held on May 12, 2021 – as a hybrid event via Zoom and in-person at Il Monticello where the slate of officers and directors was presented and voted upon. The approved slate of officers and directors is below:

The Education Awards Committee of the Midstate Chamber is very pleased to
announce the 2021 recipients. These students were chosen after a formal
application was reviewed by our selection committee.

The Sanford S. Shorr Education Award, is presented based on essential
criteria of high character, service to community, school and others. Funds
raised for these awards are generated from the Chamber’s annual golf
tournament. This year’s winners are Humza Miyan from Orville H. Platt High
School, Karen Gomez from Francis T. Maloney High School, Garrison Kunst
from Francis T. Maloney High School, and Mya Flis from Orville H. Platt High
School.

The Hispanic Outreach Leaders in Action Committee Award is for a
graduating Hispanic high school student. Funds raised for these awards are
generated through H.O.L.A. fundraisers that are held throughout the year.
This year’s winners are Dominic Ponce from Orville H. Platt High School and
Abigail Lespier from Francis T. Maloney High School.

The fourth award is the Bruce H. Kannenberg & Jonal Laboratories, Inc.
Education Award. This is a 4-year award for a Meriden resident graduating
from a Meriden Public School who will be pursuing a degree in STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or Business. This year’s recipient
is Annie Patel from Francis T. Maloney High School.

A fifth award, provided through the Frank A. and Charlotte G. Young
Memorial Fund, is an annual award for a Meriden high school student that
excels in the field of science and/or math. The recipient Taspiya Aktar from
Francis T. Maloney High School

The Chamber Members and Board of Directors would like to congratulate all
the outstanding recipients on their achievements and extend their best wishes
as these students continue their educational pursuits.
