Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce To Change Its Name

The group will be called the Midstate Chamber of Commerce starting March 1.

A press release from the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce:

At a Special Meeting held on Friday, January 17, 2014, the membership of the Greater Meriden Chamber of Commerce voted in favor of changing the organization’s name to Midstate Chamber of Commerce, Inc. During the meeting, the Motion to Approve the Name Change was made by Board Member Frank Ridley of F.W.R. Consulting Services, seconded by Membership Committee Chairwoman Eileen Bongiovanni of Bongiovanni Insurance and Financial, LLC and had an over 90% affirmative vote of the ballots cast by the members of the Corporation. With this vote, the change will officially take effect on March 1, 2014.

“Our members have spoken,” exclaimed Chamber President Sean W. Moore, further stating that “Midstate Chamber of Commerce reflects the inclusivity of this chamber’s membership throughout the central Connecticut region and reaffirms our commitment to ALL of the businesses and communities we serve.”

Chairman of the Board of Directors Atty. Thomas Welsh of the firm of Brown and Welsh P.C. said “This bold change, recommended by the leadership of the chamber and overwhelmingly affirmed by the members, will strengthen our organization and better reflect how our members do business, grow and prosper in the region.”

In correspondence to the membership prior to the Special Meeting, members of the chamber were fully advised of the process and of the board recommendation to change the name. The Board deliberated for a long time, sent the task to a subcommittee and then brought it back to the board for a unanimous vote. As a membership services organization, the Board felt it was very important that the members “weighed in” on this milestone decision.
