MERIDEN, CT — Police are searching for a vehicle following a fatal hit-and-run crash Thursday afternoon. The wreck occurred at 817 Colony Road at 2:23 p.m.

Police arrived to find an elderly man in the road. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

The victim was identified as Harold Bell, 66, of Meriden. Bell had been walking to his home which was located not far from the accident scene.

Witness and video surveillance showed a black color Honda Accord was traveling south on Old Colony Road and hit Bell, then fled the scene, according to a police statement.

The car was last seen traveling at a high rate of speed south on Old Colony Road turning east on Gypsy Lane.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating the Honda. It should have front windshield damage and missing the driver side mirror.

Any witnesses or anyone who has information on this vehicle is asked to call the Meriden Police Department at 203-630-6201. Sgt. M. Hartline # 487 will be the investigator on this case.
