Meriden Man Escapes From Custody
A man wanted on a warrant out of Florida for burglary escaped during transit and was later caught, according to police.
MERIDEN, CT — A man escaped from custody while being transported to the Meriden Superior Courthouse on Tuesday morning and was later caught, according to a police statement. Dasmel Moore, 23, of 475 Baldwin Ave. in Meriden, had a fully extraditable warrant out of Florida.
Moore was picked up by a U.S. Corrections Agent and was scheduled to be returned to Polk County, Florida, where he is facing charges of burglary of a dwelling and grand theft of a dwelling.
Moore had been secured in the rear of a transport vehicle. The vehicle pulled away from the courthouse and stopped for a red light. Moore was somehow able to get the rear door of the transport vehicle open and fled. Moore was handcuffed in the front of his body and his handcuffs were secured to a belt that wrapped around his waist, according to police.

Officers swarmed the area and dispatchers reported that Moore was spotted riding a bicycle in the area of Colony Street at Washington Street.
Police said it is not clear where Moore got the bicycle from. However, he was located running on foot a short distance away. Moore ran into the Women & Families Center located at 169 Colony St. where he was taken into custody inside of the building, according to police.

Moore was transported back to the Meriden Police Department where he was charged with first-degree escape, interfering, and second-degree breach of peace. His bond was set at $125,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
