Obituary: Kathy Fischer-Brown, 70, of Meriden

MERIDEN, CT - (From Stempien Funeral Home) Kathy Fischer-Brown,70, of Meriden, loving wife of Timothy E. Brown, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the CT Hospice in Branford.

Besides her husband she is survived by; children, Matthew (Jill), Hannah (Shawn), and grandson Harrison; siblings, Suzanne (Arturo), Beth (Allan), her Aunt Sally and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kathy was born on April 26, 1950 in NYC to Edward and Selma Fischer. She spent her early years having “adventures” in Massapequa, Long Island. When she was a teen her family moved to Stamford, CT where she graduated from Rippowam HS.

She went on to earn a BA in Theater Arts from UCONN and an MFA from Rutgers University. She met her husband Tim at grad school, and they were married in 1976. They spent four years teaching at a college in Indiana before moving back home to the east coast. They eventually made

their home in Meriden where they raised their children and owned a long
succession of Springer Spaniels.

Kathy was an accomplished actress, singer, teacher, director, and author. She worked as a grant writer for several nonprofit organizations, while researching and writing her own historical fiction.

She loved experiencing early American and Native American history and took many trips with her family and her friend Juliet to visit historical sites and reenactments.

Six of her novels were published.

But the roles that held the most importance to her were that of wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family and friends were the most important thing in her life, including the many pets she and her family have had through the years.

She cherished the times spent with family and friends on vacations, visits, and outings.

Kathy had a great laugh and love of life. She was a passionate Yankee fan since the mid-1950s and never missed a UCONN Women’s basketball game.

She was looking forward to both teams winning another championship.

The family would like to thank Sister Barbara Johnson of the Franciscan Life Center and Dr. Rajani Nadkarni of Midstate Medical Center for their many years of care and friendship.

The family has chosen to remember her life privately at this time. A Celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at a time when everyone can safely gather.
