Obituary: Robert "Robbie" Lee Alford, 71, of Meriden

Robbie, an avid NASCAR and New York Yankees fan, worked as a welder at Pratt & Whitney Aerospace for many years.

MERIDEN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Robert Lee Alford, affectionately known as “Robbie”, 71, of Meriden, Connecticut passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Hartford Hospital.

Robert was born in Darlington, South Carolina on November 20, 1949, to the late Sue Genia Josey. He grew up in Darlington, SC with his 15 siblings.

Robert graduated from Rosenwald High School in Society Hill, SC. After a brief stint in the military, Robert moved to Connecticut in the early 1970’s.

After relocating to CT Robert soon found employment at Pratt & Whitney Aerospace company where he worked as a welder for 18 years.

Robert was an avid NASCAR fan and loved the New York Yankees. His favorite pastimes included, fishing, watching game shows such as, The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal. He enjoyed listening to rock and roll and was rarely seen without his headset in his ears or around his neck. Five Finger Death Punch and Slipknot were two of his favorite bands.

As Robert got older he became more of a family man, enjoying family get togethers and spending quality time with his friends, loved ones & his beloved furry best buddy, Jax. At gatherings everyone could count on Robert to make them laugh, as he had a great sense of humor.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Paula Alford of Meriden; his daughters & sons-in-law, Tiffany & Eric Mason and Cortnie & Atiba Wiggins all of Meriden; his grandchildren, Cheyenne, Nia, Jacob, Eric Jr., Jalen, Eriel, Michael and Nathaniel; his siblings, Leo Josey, Truman Alford, James (Lisa) Alford, Roosevelt Alford, Mary Lee, Lillian (Windell) Dickson, Leila Williamson, Betty (Henry) Graham, Janet Moore, Evelyn (Thomas) Robinson, Dorothy Benjamin and Connie (Marvin) Richards; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by several of his siblings.

Robert’s family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St.Ext. on Friday, May 28th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a memorial service and celebration of his life beginning at 2:00pm.

Burial will be private.
